MFA Mentorship Programme
25/07/25, 06:00
In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Singapore)
In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Singapore), GYLS launched Singapore’s
inaugural Mentorship Programme with the Ministry to empower local youths to co-curate public
education resources and shape Singapore’s foreign policy priorities in line with their aspirations.
Through regular consultations with their mentors, who are seasoned diplomats across the Ministry’s
directorates, the youths learn directly from them the intricacies of diplomacy, foreign policy and what
global affairs mean for Singapore and youths. In turn, they research about thematic foreign policy
issues, from the importance of multilateralism to the evolution of Singapore’s foreign policy, and
share them with the wider public through social media, publications and podcast conversations to
raise their awareness and understanding on such issues.
For the first run of this programme, it attracted 222 youth applicants across Singapore where 15 of
them were selected. Over the course of 10 months from July 2025 to April 2026, the group consulted
various stakeholders and engaged in youth-led research, culminating in the curation of youth-centred
publications that draw upon historical perspectives and contemporary developments in Singapore’s
foreign policy.
