What is Model UN?Model UN (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations, designed to instil a keen knowledge of diplomacy, public speaking and global awareness in participants. Delegates will represent assigned countries or particular stakeholders in council to hold discussion and debate in council on specific topics, while pushing for their delegation’s interests. Through MUN, Delegates will be able to put their negotiation skills to a test and problem solving skills to come up with solutions to an issue with other delegates while being diplomatic.

What kind of councils will GYLS offer?GYLS will be simulating three council formats, mainly General Assembly, Dynamic Agenda and Crisis. General Assembly refers to the conventional councils which most delegates might be more familiar with, where delegates will discuss issues pertinent to such structures. Dynamic Agenda Councils will have neither fixed topics nor perimeters, but they will work within a larger theme, testing delegates on their ability to prioritise and be more constructive and productive within council time. Crisis typically includes the role-playing of delegates in historical crises, where delegates have to be decisive based off their portfolio powers and stance. This will push delegates to be adaptable and quick in their responses to real-time updates.
-
What are the difficulty levels for councils in GYLS?Beginner councils are a more conducive environment for delegates newer to the MUN circuit to learn more about the format. More training and guidance from the Chairs will be provided to help delegates find their footing in the council. Intermediate councils are designed for delegates with some prior knowledge, and are designed to to hone beginner delegates in their skills. Advanced councils welcome delegates who have a good grasp of MUN and commendable public speaking abilities. Delegates will expect a higher degree of autonomy and take greater ownership of their delegation. A list of the council difficulties have been provisioned in the "Council" section of the website - do note that the list is meant to be a guide, rather than a hard and fast rule. Do apply for councils based off your own interest!
-
How will I be allocated to my council?Delegates will be allocated to their council based on priority of interests. There is no guarantee by the Secretariat Team on the councils of choice, but we will take into account the experience level of delegates and the structure of every council. Special considerations may be made for delegates with a stated Double Delegate.
